Cecil Taylor – All The Notes

The documentary All the Notes is a superb 70-minute (or so) portrait of pianist Cecil Taylor, that covers not only his music but many of his other interests. And it’s been uploaded to YouTube in its entirety – not by some diehard fan, but by MVD, the company that (presumably) owns the rights to the DVD. Just putting something like this out there in the hope that fans will find it is a tremendously altruistic thing for a media company to do, and I commend them for it.

  1. I bought the DVD direct from the company and I highly recommend it. It’s worth having for any serious jazz fan and/or fan of Cecil. Very well done.

  2. Wow does the man ever sleep? I have wondered about the story behind Cecil Taylor’s music for years. Thank you for sharing this enjoyable look at this great artist. Inspirational, instructional, and deeply rooted. He takes Bird and Monk’s influence into another dimension.
