Here’s an excellent video of the Darius Jones/Salim Washington Quintet performing at the Jazz Gallery in June of this year. In addition to saxophonists Jones and Washington (who’s interviewed at the beginning of the clip), the band includes pianist Yayoi Ikawa, bassist Mark Helias and drummer Tyshawn Sorey.
Darius Jones has a new album coming soon with the group Grass Roots, which features him alongside baritone saxophonist Alex Harding, bassist Sean Conly and drummer Chad Taylor. It’s pretty fierce stuff, and definitely worth your time. It’ll be out October 9 on AUM Fidelity.
