Alto saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa will be releasing his next studio album, Gamak, on January 29 via ACT Music. The disc features bassist François Moutin and drummer Dan Weiss, both of whom he’s worked with in the past, as well as one new face – guitarist David Fiuczynski. The resulting music has a Prime Time-ish edge and energy, and pretty much vaults out of the speakers. Frankly, I can easily see this being my favorite Mahanthappa album.
