Here’s a video, directed by Anna Maria Helgadóttir, for “The Open Well,” a track from Excepter‘s 2010 double CD Presidence. This is not always true of their work (not by a long shot), but both the music and visuals here remind me of the Residents. It’s almost 18 minutes long, and/but well worth watching/listening to all the way through. Excepter‘s music is fascinating stuff, and all their albums are worth hearing, especially Presidence and Ka. I wrote a feature on them for The Wire in 2010, and posted an interview with one of their members, Clare Amory, on my other blog when it was announced that she had died in February of this year.
