Chiminyo is a London-based drummer and producer who works entirely from behind a drum kit combined with a laptop and self-coded software. Each drum hit triggers a synth or a sample, allowing him to create live loops and surprising sounds while maintaining the beat. He’s performed solo at the London Jazz Festival, and worked with artists like Gary Bartz, Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia, Theon Cross, and Zara McFarlane. He released a three-track EP, I Am Chiminyo, in 2019, and his debut album, I Am Panda, last year.
He’s just released a video for “See Me,” a live collaboration with K.O.G. of Onipa, a self-described Afro-Futurist project featuring musicians from Ghana and London. It’s pretty great; watch it below.
